Alright, I 'll write this entry in English since non-francophones might be interested in reading it.
Last night was my 7th Zappa Plays Zappa, and my 3rd in Kansas City, MO. It was held at the Grinders an unusual outdoor venue behind a bar/pizza joint downtown KC. The usual crowd of mid-west Zappa-heads was there and a sizable number of youngsters (some with glow-in-the-dark hula hoops) - which is always good to see. It was a nice venue except for the stupid no backpack rule (never had that problem before at the 5 ZPZ shows I attended in the US) that almost caught me in a jam. Luckily, a friendly couple I had met in the line offered to host my backpack in their car - thank you again guys!
It was ZPZ's last show for this leg of the US tour. The show was as strong as the May 18 show I caught in Paris - one change I noticed was more soloing from the band; I counted 3 for Jaimie (He was on fire!), 2 for Scheila (see below for a taste) , 2 for Billy (loved that one during King Kong), 2 for Pete, 2 for Joe, and of course Ben's dancing and delightful fart music. Dweezil, of course, took his share of "air sculpting" time, but reduced his presence a bit and dropped the long electronic-effect laden soloing he gave at the end of the Paris show (during More trouble Everyday)which was a good move. ;)
For once I brought my camera (which was not in my backpack :)), so check out my pix
The quality is not always great, but it will give you an idea of the general piquant atmosphere.
I also made a few short videos for your auditory edification:
Apostrophe (same show-opener as in Paris 2009)
A short excerpt of Ben on Montana
You'll notice Scheila having some tech problems with her top keyboard, it got fixed a few songs later.
Scheila concluding a brilliant solo during King Kong
A final excerpt of Dweezil soloing on Willie the Pimp
AAAFNRAA!
PS: Thanks to Nolan for the ride to the GH station!
